Summer Afternoon

Maybe the mighty sun

has had enough

of its own glory

bored as it is

by its own heat

that now it flares

and spews

in a tantrum of  burn

solar and sulfuric

left we are to wait

till its storms 

fan out again

Thank heavens it rained today! Whew! Brief spurt of water splashed from the sky dunking us in the barest of wet. A bit like a joke really, but at least this is respite from the violent wave of summer heat.. Thank goodness too for the presence of my big guava tree up front. It's massiveness shades the house from the blunt of mid-afternoon glare. Little mercies much appreciated...
