I'd rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck.
~Emma Goldman
I have come down with the most pesky flu rendering my eyes watery, my chest tight and my head in a fog of cloud, tsk! Not at all charming. BUT (!) I was able to manage a little trip to the nearby mall, a few steps and a 5 minute drive from my place. I don't frequent this gigantic block of stores tho'..preferring a farther drive to a smaller supermarket for essentials. I don't know why, but for whatever sense and reason, I now find big crowded establishments quite suffocating and much too noisy for me to stand. We are a city and country of sprouting malls I'm afraid, and though they say it is a mark of progress, I long for the simpler wet markets of my youth where everything could be bought for a song - including flowers.
Anyway, these "fake" flowers are the reason for the trip. My valentine roses have drooped and the chocolates all churned up in my belly and I so wanted something to delight me for a much longer period of time. I hunted down these perfect little buds in the "Blooms" area found at the basement across the glassware aisles of the mall.
Oh, but they do have such pretty things to offer - all looking so fresh and real! Roses, daisies, daffodils, tulips and more! I do adore the real ones of course and indulge in a weekly bunch, but at least these pretty things will linger forever. To cap it all, I also purchased sachets of dried rose petals and a little bottle of rose essential oil. My home smells like a florist's shop. I don't know what my husband will remark of this when he gets home tonight after a week of being away, haha! But..I'm happy.

Those are fake ~ honestly I was thinking what a beautiful bouquet.
ReplyDeleteI don't care for malls either, but you are right we are a country of sprouting malls!
When I was a kid I loved a little store called Hoys five and dime. It was the best place in the world for a child to buy Christmas presents. Much better than today's dollar stores.
Hmmm, I bet your home smells divine. I had at one time aspirations to be a florist, I love anything to do with plants and flowers.
Hope you have a beautiful weekend.

Hi Lady. Just popped in to say howdy do and have a great weekend. The roses are awesome and I too thought they were real. It's a great idea to have the scent around because then they really seem real. I hope you feel better really soon. It's awful being sick. I never go to mall's, too many people. I'm sort of a loner you could say. The majority of my friends are on the internet.:D I do have friends here in the outside world, but selected friends. Get well and take care.
ReplyDeleteMe too..I thought they're real! I do hope you're getting better, it sucks when we're sick. I bet Mr Hubby's senses will be delighted by the fragrance at home!
ReplyDeleteYes, I would take the roses too. Beautiful even if they are fake.
